Henan Province TV Tower, Zhengzhou

There’s not much information on the internet about this one, but a new 1,273 foot high TV tower is being built in Zhengzhou in Henan Province China. You can find renderings and photos on skyscraperpage.com. Construction should be finished within a year.

West Tower, Guangzhou China

West Tower is a 104 story building that is under construction in Guangzhou China. The building looks similiar to what the Shanghai Center will look like when it’s completed. The bottom 98 floors will be used for offices and a hotel. The top floors will feature an observation deck. A twin tower will be built close to West Tower and will be completed in a couple years.

100 Story Building Proposed in India

The Wadala Tower is a 100 story building that is being proposed in Mumbai India. Only construction companies that have built other structures of at least 400 meters in height can bid on the project.

City Creek Center, Salt Lake City

City Creek Center is a new development project in downtown Salt Lake City that will include a shopping center, office space and approximately 540 residencial units located in 5 residential high rise buildings ranging from about 20 to 35 stories tall. The development is a private project so no tax dollars are needed.

City Creek Center will have an open air design that will be serviced by the TRAX light rail system and underground parking for cars.

The whole project will include:

1.4 million square feet of office space

510 room Marriott Hotel

A 50,000 square foot grocery store

A fully retractable glass roof over Main Street for climate control year round

A skybridge over Main Street will connect retail stores

City Creek Center will be completed in 2012.

Great American Insurance Building, Cincinnati

Great American Building at Queen City Square is a 40 story building under construction in downtown Cincinnati Ohio. When the 41 story ($322 million) building is completed in 2011, it will be the tallest building in Cincinnati. The project is trying to achieve LEED Silver certification, which will be one of the largest ”green” buildings in the nation.

The building will include many “green” features including a 25,000 square foot winter garden, and energy efficient lighting.

Madinat al-Hareer, Kuwait

Madinat al-Hareer meaning city of silk is a massive development proposed in Kuwait. The project which will be 250 square kilometers in size will create 450,000 jobs and will house 700,000 people upon it’s completion in 2025.

The centerpiece of Madinat al-hareer is a new building that will be the tallest in the world if completed. Burj Mubarak al-kabir will be a 200 story building that will create a vertical community made up of 7 neighborhoods stacked on top of each other.

A new wildlife refuge covering 200 hectares will be created as part of Madinat al-Hareer.

Shard London Bridge

Shard London Bridge is a 80 story (1,017 ft) tower that will become the tallest building in the United Kingdom upon completion in 2012.

Demolition crews have finished demolishing a 24 story building that sits on the site, and construction of Shard London Bridge will start in January of 2009.

The building which is being designed by Renzo Piano, will feature the first Shangri-La Hotel in Europe that will take up roughly a fifth of the building. There will be an observation deck at the top of the tower that is expected to draw over 2 million visitors per year. Shard London Bridge will also be occupied by apartments and offices.

King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia

Emaar is developing a $26.5 billion project about an hour’s drive north of Jeddah Saudi Arabia called King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). When King Abdullah Economic City is completed in 2025, it will be home to over 1.5 million people.

Saudi Arabia is one of the fastest growing countries in the world mostly due to its high birth rate. Over 60 percent of the population is under the age of 20. The country will need to build over 6 million houses over the next 12 years which is more than Saudi Arabia has built over the last 50 years.

KAEC will have six zones:

Residential

Industrial

Sea Port

Central Business District

Education Zone

Sea Resort

The Residential zone will have 260,000 apartments and 56,000 villas. The zone will be home to a half a million people and thousands of tourists. There will be mosques and shops located in the residential area.

The Industrial Zone will cover 63 million sq m of the city and will offer hundreds of thousands of jobs.

The Sea Port will cover 13.8 million square meters and will be able to handle 10 million containers per year. An important part of the port is a new Hajj Terminal that will be able to handle 300,000 pilgrims on their way to Mecca and Medina for the annual pilgrimage.

The Central Business District will include over 3.8 million sq m of office space along with hotels and other commercial space.

The Education Zone will feature several universities that will accomodate 18,000 students and 7,500 faculty members.

The Sea Resort will have 25,000 hotel rooms in 120 hotels. The sea resort will feature golf courses, a yacht club, and an equestrian club.
